We supported 62 women in 2021, 78 in 2022.
On average during 2023 we worked with 35 women a week. On average during 2024 so far, we've worked with 40 women a week.
We support women to paint furniture, express themselves creatively, make decisions about their futures, gain skills, think about work, sort through budgets and benefits, find the resources they need to make their houses into homes, to access counselling and therapies, to connect with positive peers, to share skills, to become informed about their rights, and to live their best possible lives.
We're not a women's centre, we are a different space for women.
Women tell us that it's the refuge they didn't know they needed.
The workshop drop in's are free to access to ALL women. We are financed through a mix of grants and a little bit of earned income, which enables us to give our resources to women who really need us. We work with lots of partner projects to give women as many choices in life as possible.
We facilitate a women's workshop in Wigan. Supporting women through hard times with paintbrushes and compassion.
There's furniture to design, sand and prep, paint and market. Upcycling furniture can really benefit our mental health, as well as reducing furniture going to waste in landfill.
Most importantly we have kettle, tea and coffee, and biscuits.
All our drop in sessions are free to access. If you can donate that's lovely, but our job is to provide the resources for the workshop to run well, from both grants we apply for and earned income from the art supplies and furniture that we sell.
The workshop is a safe space for women. If you want to talk about an issue, that's fine. We aren't counsellors, or even support workers - but we can put you in touch with services if that's what you want.
Where we're able we do sometimes run pay as you feel or ticketed workshops where we share upcycling skills - these are listed on eventbrite.
Upcoming ticketed workshops:
Wednesday 18th September - Beginners Upholstery 10.30-2.30
There's lots going on across the Fur Clemt building in either our workshop, the community craft room, the training rooms, kitchens or gardening areas. For the rest of 2024 we are working with Fur Clemt on our Keep It Together (KIT) programme. This is our way of delivering community sessions that you ask for, that might end up with you feeling a bit more in control of your life. Think of it like a pick and mix - you choose what you'd like to do, and you can work on starting your own projects, getting into work, volunteering or even just keeping it together and having a bit more fun in life.
Any of our paid for sessions are free if you sign up to the KIT programme.
Anyone who identifies as a woman can come. You must be over 16yrs. That's it - you don't have to have a particular issue, or even any creative skills. There are lots of other activities on in the Fur Clemt building, free to access through our Keeping It Together programme.
Let us know if you're coming through a message or a WhatsApp on

You don't have to have any experience of upcycling furniture, just come and have a go! We're super nice, I promise.
If you want to bring a piece of your own furniture to do up, then all we ask is a donation of how ever much you're able to give towards materials used.

Our newest venture - opening another creative furniture upcycling workshop in Leigh. Not alone though - in partnership with Reet Good Wood. We're sharing a workshop so we can support each other to grow. Ruth from Reet Good Wood found furniture painting when she needed it most, and wants to share it with other people. We're going to be running a programme of ticketed workshops, create painted furniture for sale, and hold free to access workshops for women and neurodivergent people as well. More news soon!
Opening day for the workshop space is Friday September 6th.
